Maple Syrup Family Day

Welcome spring at the Richfield Historical Society’s annual Maple Syrup Family Day at the Richfield Historical Nature Park. Spring brings a whirlwind of activity to the RHS sugar shack, where the sap collected from maple trees in the park is cooked into syrup. Syrup-making demonstrations will be held throughout the day, with discussions of the history of maple sap products. Syrup will also be available for sale. There will be a maple syrup contest. The tasting portion of the contest will begin at 9:00a.m and take place in the Granary building adjacent to the Sugar Shack. RHS famous pancakes and sausage breakfast with real maple syrup, will be served from 9a.m. – noon and delicious maple cotton candy will be available throughout the day. The Pioneer Homestead area will feature demonstrations of lard rendering, old-fashioned cooking, and weaving on the antique loom. The kids will enjoy seeing the farm animals. Stop by the Blacksmith Shop for demonstrations of the Smithy’s art, and peruse the items for sale. Funds raised at the event support the Society’s education programs and maintenance of the Richfield Historical Park.
